Sheriff's Department Awarded Grant And Donations From Local Churches

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department received two announcements Sunday, February 14, 2016 by way of financial assistance. Wayne County Economic Development Director Sean Dunlap began the afternoon event by announcing that the Sheriff’s Department had been approved for a grant totaling approximately $11,500 earmarked for bullet proof vests.
Immediately following the announcement, several pastors presented Sheriff Jody Ashley with checks over $17,000 that members of their congregation had donated to go towards the purchase of bullet proof vests for the department. After being presented the checks, sheriff Ashley addressed the audience, “I thank everyone that donated to this cause. It is humbling to see the community come together and support the sheriff’s Department.”On hand to show support were local Pastors, Citizens, members of the Board of Supervisors, Mayor, State Representative, Justice Court Judges, and Emergency Management Officials.
