Historical Sign Recoverd - Investigation Ongoing

On August 2nd 2007, a citizen called the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and requested that Investigator Kevin Stevens come to the location that the Historical sign had been stolen from because the sign had been returned. Sheriff Stein Farrior, Deputy Wesley Waites, & Investigator Stevens traveled to the location. Witnesses informed officers that at 1130 am the sign was not at the location and the sign was discovered at approximately 1230 noon.
The sign was collected and transported to the Sheriff’s Department where it will be processed for any fingerprints. “Just because the sign was returned does not mean that this case is closed, we will working hard to find those responsible for this criminal act,” said Investigator Stevens. We also hope to find fingerprints on a fishing reel that was found at the scene that Authorities believe that the suspects may had accidently lost during the act. Sheriff Farrior said, “I believe that the exposure this case received in the Wayne County News put a lot of pressure on those individuals that had the sign and they decided to return it.”
