Teamwork Solves Auto Burglary

On Tuesday, August 22nd 2006, The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department arrested Jeremy Adam Dykes for burglary of an automobile. At approximately 0500 hours, Deputy Russell Douglass was dispatched to investigate the report of a vehicle being burglarized at a residence located in the 2000 area of Highway 63 South. Deputy Douglass learned that a window had been broken out of the truck and stereo equipment was reported as being stolen from the truck.
Deputy Douglass later observed a vehicle that met the description one seen in the area of the burglary run a stop sign and a traffic control light. Deputy Douglass conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Dykes. Waynesboro Police Department Patrolman Jonathan Walker and Deputy Charles Everett assisted Deputy Douglass with traffic stop. Information was obtained that linked Dykes to the burglary. Working with this information, Chief Deputy Gerald Barnett, Deputy Douglass, and Investigators Mike Mozingo and Kevin Stevens recovered the stolen items from Dykes’ residence located on Highway 63 South.
Fingerprint evidence was collected from the recovered items and will be submitted to the Mississippi Crime Laboratory for analysis. The case will be presented to the January 2007 Grand Jury. Burglary of an automobile carries a maximum of 7 years and/or $10,000.00.
