The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the South Mississippi Narcotics Task Force conducted an unannounced search at the Wayne County High School Thursday morning. “This search was a result of multiple complaints that I have received from various people including parents and students about drugs in the school. As a Sheriff’s Department, we want to do everything possible to promote a drug free atmosphere in our schools,” said Sheriff Farrior.
The South Mississippi Correctional Facility K-9 Team led by Lt. Thomal Wilkerson assisted in the search. Drug detection dogs were used in the search for illegal narcotics. The K-9 dogs were deployed into the campus parking lots, the gymnasium, and the field house. There was no illegal drugs or contraband discovered in the early morning search.
After completing the search at the Jail, Officers took the opportunity to search the Wayne County Adult Detention Center. All cells and inmate areas were searched. There were no drugs or contraband discovered in this search.
