UPDATE/ Historical Philadelphus Presbyterian Church Sign Stolen

On Tuesday, July 31st 2007, The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department received a call reporting that a historical sign located on Dyess Bridge Road had been damaged and stolen. The sign which documented the history of Philadelphus Presbyterian Church located at the intersection of Dyess Bridge Road & Big Rock Road, was pulled over and the sign stolen. Investigators Kevin Stevens and Mike Mozingo and Sheriff Stein Farrior responded. It appeared that the incident occurred late Monday night. Physical evidence was collected at the scene.
Investigator Kevin Stevens contacted the Mississippi Historical Commission this morning and learned that the replacement cost for the sign is approximately $1650.00. According to the Mississippi Historical Commission the signs are now funded by private sponsors.
Anyone that may have information related to this incident is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff's Department at 735-3801 or Crime Stoppers at 735-LEAD (5323). A $500.00 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department has received information that the historical sign was actually about the history of Dyess Bridge rather than the Philadelphus Church. The reward remains in place and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
