On December 23rd 2009, at approximately 1400 hours, The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department received a call reporting that a residence located at 13 Sherry Drive had been burglarized. Deputy Charles Everett and Investigators Mike Mozingo and Kevin Stevens responded to the scene. Someone had forcibly entered the residence and stolen a television and all of the Christmas presents belonging to a three year old child from under the tree. Officers were successful in recovering some physical evidence from the residence. After completing the investigation at the scene, the officers contacted the Waynesboro Fire
Department and the Department of Human Services and informed them about the stolen presents. Everyone put their resources to work, including two Jail Officers who learned of the incident, and provided presents to replace those stolen.
On December 24th 2009, Deputy Everett obtained information that led to the stolen television being recovered from an individual that cooperated and provided the identity of the person he purchased it from. Investigators Mozingo and Stevens took Kelvin Chambers into custody at his residence located on Lacy Drive and continued the investigation. Deputy Everett and Investigators Mozingo and Stevens recovered the largest present, from a separate individual.
Kelvin Chambers was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary of a dwelling. Chambers will appear before a Wayne County Justice Court Judge within 48 hours for an Initial Appearance.
Chambers appeared before Wayne County Justice Court Judge Charles Britton Sr. for an Initial Appearance at which time bond was set at $10,000.00 per count. Investigator Mozingo will present the case to the July Wayne County Grand Jury.
